Lewis Hamilton ready to go on and on for Mercedes

Following his promising performance in Austin last weekend, when he narrowly lost out to Max Verstappen for the win, Lewis Hamilton has arrived in Mexico City keen to go one better and not end 2022 without a victory.

With two triumphs at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, the Briton has one less scalp than Verstappen, whose Red Bull has always performed strongly here.

Should the Dutchman win his 14th race of the year, he will be the most dominant driver over a season in the sport’s history (although Alberto Ascari’s six wins from seven races in 1952 runs him close).

However, the Mercedes W13’s aerodynamic challenges will be felt less here, where the circuit sits 1.4 miles above sea level. The thinner air at altitude puts draggier cars like the Merc at less of a disadvantage, because everyone will be running high-downforce.

‘On paper, Mexico looks good,’ said team principal Toto Wolff. ‘I hope we can give [Red Bull] a run for their money.’
