Student attacked by crocodile helps build school as a thank you to rescuers

A crocodile attack victim who almost lost her foot while rafting in Africa has won a bravery award after returning to Zambia months later to build a school.

Gap-year student Amelie Osborn-Smith was left fighting for life when the monster attacked.

A friend helped pull the 18-year-old from its jaws and she was airlifted to the capital Lusaka, then London, for seven operations.

The brave teenager, now 19, wanted to give back to kind Zambians who helped her get medical treatment. So she began fundraising to build the school near the scene of last December’s attack.

Within months she was back overseeing the construction project in Muke village, funded by £40,000 she raised through media interviews and a Justgiving page.
