Britain’s busiest airport has raised the prospect of more last-minute cancellations over the festive period
Just when it felt like the chaos was over, Heathrow has warned that passengers may need to fly outside of peak times over the busy Christmas period or face a last-minute cancellation.
While details are yet to be announced, the airport issued a statement outlining plans to potentially alter flight schedules, with another cap on passenger numbers possibly in the pipeline.
“We are working with airlines to agree on a highly targeted mechanism that, if needed, would align supply and demand on a small number of peak days in the lead-up to Christmas,” it read.
“This would encourage demand into less busy periods, protecting the heavier peaks, and avoiding flight cancellations due to resource pressures.”
