Tortoise co-founder quits to run publisher of Good Housekeeping

Katie Vanneck-Smith named as chief executive of Hearst UK

A co-founder of Tortoise has quit the news start-up and will take up a new role leading the publisher of Good Housekeeping magazine.

Katie Vanneck-Smith, who helped launch Tortoise in 2018 and left last month, has been named chief executive of Hearst UK.

She will replace Simon Horne, who has served as interim chief executive since the surprise departure of James Wildman last summer. Hearst also publishes Cosmopolitan, Elle and Men’s Health magazines.

Jonathan Wright, Hearst Magazines International President, said: “Katie is an experienced and inspiring leader, and a lover of print who embraces the opportunities of digital.
