Jurgen Klopp has admitted that ‘even Darwin Nunez was surprised’ at his horrific miss in Liverpool’s 3-0 Champions League win at Ajax.
Nunez passed up an excellent opportunity to score in the first-half as he missed an easy tap-in from six yards out following Roberto Firmino’s ball across the box.
Andy Robertson has revealed that Nunez was angry in the dressing room after the miss despite eventually scoring on the 49-minute mark.
Rio Ferdinand, meanwhile, defended the 23-year-old Uruguay international and feels ‘he will be an effective striker in the long run’.
Nunez has scored six goals across 13 games for Liverpool since he joined from Benfica in a £85m deal this summer and was subbed off after 63 minutes in Amsterdam.
