Lewis Hamilton provides seven-word update on Mercedes future

Lewis Hamilton has given an update on his future with Mercedes and claimed he is set to sit down with team principal Toto Wolff for discussions in the near future. The seven-time world champion has been with Mercedes since moving from McLaren in 2013 but there have been questions regarding the 37-year-old’s future in the sport amid speculation that he could retire from F1.Hamilton’s Mercedes contract ends at the end of next season, but he has confirmed that he will sit down with Wolff in the next few months and the Brit has emphatically claimed that there will be an extension to his current contract. ‘We are going to do another deal,’ Hamilton told Motorsport.com.’We’re going to sit down and we’re going to discuss it in these next couple of months, I would say. My goal is to continue to be with Mercedes. I’ve been with Mercedes since I was 13. And it really is my family: Mercedes-Benz is my family.’They’ve stuck with me through thick and thin. They stuck with me through being expelled at school. They stuck with me through everything that was going on through 2020. They’ve stuck with me through my mistakes, and s*** that’s been in the press; they’ve stuck with me through the ups and downs. And I want to be the best team-mate I can be to them, because I think we can make the brand even better, more accessible, even stronger than it is. And I think I can be an integral part of that.’Hamilton will be aiming to avoid an unwanted record this season, however, as it is the only season he has failed to win a single race since he joined F1. He has three races remaining to get his maiden race victory and will be attempting to get over the chequered line first in Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi.MUST READ…Max Verstappen could be ‘easily replaced’ warns ex-Red Bull driverMartin Brundle says Lewis Hamilton can still enjoy ‘glorious’ seasonHamilton and Russell told ‘pathetic’ issue could make win impossible Lewis Hamilton will speak with Toto Wolff regarding a new contract.
