FIA pressure mounts as F1 boss makes demand over Red Bull rule breach

Pressure is continuing to mount on the FIA, with Red Bull still yet to be handed their punishment for breaching their 2021 budget cap. Christian Horner’s team were found to have overspent on their budget, after spending cap rules were brought in by the FIA for the 2021 season.Following their breach Red Bull are yet to be handed their punishment by the sport’s governing body, but with the rule-break only said to be a ‘minor breach’ many have speculated that the punishment will be a hefty one. Alfa Romeo boss Fred Vasseur believes differently though. As a result Vasseur has called for Red Bull to be handed both a financial and a sporting penalty for their breach. He said: ‘The most important thing for me is that it is a good level of penalty, that it is not because we are in a rush that we have to do something like this and take a decision.”This is crucial for F1 and for the future of the cost cap and now it is in the hands of the FIA to find the right level of punishment. But for me, it has to be a sporting [penalty] because, at the end of the day, it is a sporting infringement. JUST IN: Sergio Perez makes Max Verstappen demand as Red Bull driver targets Mexican GP win Fred Vasseur has called for a penalty against Red Bull (Image: GETTY)We are not speaking about a financial [penalty].  We are speaking about an update and at the end of the day, we have to find the right level of punishment.” Amid the budget cap saga, Red Bull and their team principal Horner were accused of ‘cheating’ by McLaren rival Zak Brown. Addressing the claims, Horner said at the US Grand Prix: ‘It’s tremendously disappointing for a fellow competitor to accuse you of cheating. To accuse you of fraudulent activity is shocking, without the facts, without any knowledge of the details.
