Newsboy’s horse racing tips for Thursday’s four meetings, including Chelmsford Nap

Newsboy expects his Nap, Our Absent Friends, to be the punters’ pal at Chelmsford and also fancies Idoapologise to complete his daily double at Lingfield

OUR ABSENT FRIENDS looks good to give his rivals weight and a beating in the chelmsfordcityracecourse.com Handicap (6.00) at the Essex Showground. The four-year-old son of Camacho, who didn’t make the track for Richard Fahey, earned a handicap mark of 64 after three runs for Tristan Davidson this autumn. Making his debut in the sphere over five furlongs at Newcastle nine days ago, Our Absent Friends travelled strongly en route to a three-length beating of Tantastic. Gosforth Park’s five furlongs represents a decent test at the minimum trip, so the return to six furlongs isn’t expected to prove a problem for a horse who still has a significant ‘up’ side. His 5lb penalty leaves Jason Hart’s mount – now rated 73 – 4lb ahead of the assessor on official figures and Our Absent Friends should take advantage.

At Lingfield, IDOAPOLOGISE is fancied to net compensation for an unlucky run last time by landing the Spreadex Sports £300 Spread Betting Cashback Apprentice Handicap (1.40). Having captured a six-furlong handicap at Wolverhampton at the start of the month, Brian Ellison’s five-year-old was persistently denied a run over the same distance at Newcastle eight days later. Idoapologise is 2lb lower in the weights here and the return to seven furlongs is not expected to pose any problems to Ryan Sexton’s partner.
