Suella Braverman, the Fareham MP, has been given her old job back as Home Secretary less than a week after she sensationally quit the post as a result of a security breach, largely perceived as a protest of then-Prime Minister Liz Truss’ decisions in Government. But away from making headlines in politics, who is Mrs Braverman, and what does her husband do? Speaking about the wedding, Mr Braverman said: “We met through some mutual friends, and then she invited me for a day in Parliament.”As far as first dates go it was certainly an unusual one, but I’ve always been interested in politics so I went along with it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and we agreed to meet up again. We had our first ‘proper’ date a few weeks later and it all took off from there.”The Portsmouth News reported that Mrs Braverman added: “Rael has just been so supportive of me in Fareham – I think the day I realised he was the one when he came out delivering leaflets for the election in the pouring rain.”The pair became engaged in October 2017, with Mr Braverman popping the question while they holidayed in Cyprus. Mrs Braverman explained how her then-husband-to-be was “nervous” about going down on one knee, adding: “I was absolutely delighted. It helped spark a chaotic 24 hours for Ms Truss, who ended her premiership after 49 days as Prime Minister on Tuesday.In her note, Mrs Braverman said: “Pretending we haven’t made mistakes, carrying on as if everyone can’t see that we have made them, and hoping that things will magically come right is not serious politics. I have made a mistake; I accept responsibility; I resign.”It is obvious to everyone that we are going through a tumultuous time. I have concerns about the direction of this Government.”Not only have we broken key pledges that were promised to our voters, but I have had serious concerns about this Government’s commitment to honouring manifesto commitments, such as reducing overall migration numbers and stopping illegal migration, particularly the dangerous small boats crossings.”The decision to enlist Mr Braverman once again as Home Secretary was met with derision from rivals Labour and the Liberal Democrats, who lashed out at Mr Sunak. Her counterpart, the Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, claimed the Prime Minister put his party before the country “just a few hours into the job”.
