Which football team does Prime Minister Rishi Sunak support?

Rishi Sunak, the new Prime Minister of the UK, supports Premier League club Southampton FC, who are nicknamed the Saints.

Sunak replaced Liz Truss as Conservative leader this week and took part in PMQs for the first time as PM on Wednesday, going up against Labour’s Keir Starmer.

His party may be blue, but Sunak’s loyalties are firmly on the red side of the south coast and he is a big supporter of Southampton Football Club.

His favourite player is Saints legend Matt Le Tissier and the Southampton-born MP has previously said he would love to one day run the club.

Sunak’s father Yashvir had a season ticket to watch the Saints and Sunak said that he was given a card signed by the whole squad for his 18th birthday, which became ‘one of his most prized possessions’.
