The PGA Tour knew it had pulled off a significant coup in golf’s existential crisis when Cameron Young rejected Greg Norman’s lure to join LIV Golf.
Rumours had begun to circulate in August that the 25-year-old – who had just finished runner-up at the 150th Open Championship – may become the latest emerging star to join the Saudi-funded breakaway. Young, however, opted to “pursue the goals I have for myself, like making the Presidents Cup team or Ryder Cup team and winning a major,” and he remained a member of the PGA Tour.
It was fitting, therefore, that the American’s loyalty was rewarded last week when he won 94 per cent of the vote to be crowned PGA Tour Rookie of the Year after a
