The king of 2D shooters, R-Type, is getting both an upgraded successor to last year’s revival and remakes of its two strategy spin-offs.
2003’s R-Type Final was supposed to be exactly what its name suggests but, thankfully, last year’s R-Type Final 2 successfully revived the series and now it turns out it wasn’t just a one-off.
Developer Granzella (the studio built by members of former R-Type developer Irem) has announced a follow-up for the PlayStation 5, entitled R-Type Final 3 Evolved.
Not only that, but it’s also releasing remakes of the two turn-based strategy game spin-offs R-Type Tactics and R-Type Tactics 2: Operation Bitter Chocolate, the latter of which boasts the best subtitle we’ve ever seen for a video game.
However, from the sound of it, R-Type Final 3 Evolved is less of a sequel and more of an expanded update to its predecessor. Although it’s not without new features, that may justify double dipping.
