Fewer cars than expected were delivered by Tesla in the past three months as it halted production at its factories to prepare for the manufacturing of new models.
Elon Musk’s electric carmaker said that deliveries in the third quarter had fallen to 435,059 vehicles, down from 466,140 in the second quarter and also below the 456,722 forecast by analysts. Production was down at 430,488 vehicles, from 479,700 produced in the second quarter.
“A sequential decline in volumes was caused by planned downtimes for factory upgrades,” Tesla said. It had indicated previously that it would be carrying out planned upgrades to enable it to roll out a newer version of its mass-market Model 3 car, which is expected to start deliveries this quarter, as well as
