Israel’s controversial security minister is increasingly being excluded from government talks because of his “harmful” behaviour.
Itamar Ben-Gvir, the nationalist with oversight of the police force, was snubbed from Binyamin Netanyahu’s weekly security briefing on Sunday, sources said. The meeting brings together leading defence and security figures, including the chief of staff of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), the head of the Shin Bet internal security service and the defence minister, Yoav Galant.
The news website Ynet said “meetings with Ben-Gvir are seen as infantile” and were causing friction with other ministers. In particular, Ben-Gvir’s confrontations with Galant, over the response to terrorist attacks in the West Bank have caused concern.
