Rory McIlroy and controversial caddie hold Ryder Cup meeting after angry bust-up

Rory McIlroy clashed with Patrick Cantlay’s caddie Joe LaCava on the final hole of day two of the Ryder Cup at Marco Simone, and the pair were reunited on Sunday morning

Rory McIlroy and the caddie of Patrick Cantlay, Joe LaCava held a meeting ahead of play on day three of the Ryder Cup, after clashing the previous evening.

McIlroy was left furious with the conduct of LaCava in the final match of the Saturday afternoon fourballs, which saw the Northern Irishman and Matt Fitzaptrick lose to Cantlay and Wyndham Clark. Cantlay holed a remarkable birdie putt at the 18th to secure the final point of the day, and give the Americans a glimmer of hope ahead of Sunday’s singles.

The putt sparked wild scenes from the American camp, who ironically celebrated by taking off their hats and waving them in the direction of Cantlay, after it was reported that he was playing without a cap in protest against players not being paid to compete.

One man who joined in the chaos was his caddie LaCava, but the American’s assistant appeared to overstep the mark, when directing his celebration towards McIlroy. Unsurprisingly the Northern Irishman hit back at LaCava, as he still had a putt to half the match.
