The National Trust has removed a sapling near the felled Sycamore Gap tree which was planted on Friday “to restore hope”.
Kieran Chapman, from Westerhope, Newcastle, spent hours installing the young plant metres from the site at Hadrian’s Wall, Northumberland.
The 27-year-old told the BBC he was left “gutted” after the world-famous landmark was destroyed on Wednesday.
But National Trust officials have since removed his sapling replacement because of the site’s UNESCO World Heritage status.
