UK weather: Balmy 20C start to weekend

The Met Office has announced which areas are likely to experience 20C on Saturday, ahead of the start of October – it comes as forecasters said the UK could feel hotter than Greece

Brits could bask in balmy weather in parts of England this weekend as temperatures are expected to reach a summery 20C.

The Met Office revealed that October should receive a warm welcome with the south east region predicted to see sunny skies from Saturday. According to the latest weather maps, London will experience the hottest temperatures of 20C. However, places including Reading, Guilford, Rochester, and Chelmsford fall close behind at 19C.

Northeast Scotland will be hit with lower numbers with the majority of locations expected to see a peak temperature of 14C. Northern Ireland will see similar temperatures. It comes after forecasters revealed some people could feel “very warm” at the start of next month as cold temperatures started to decrease in some parts of England towards the end of this week.

The joyful news follows much harsher conditions which saw some areas battered with torrential rain in the northern and western regions from Storm Agnes. According to Netweather forecaster Jo Farrow, some places could experience highs of up to 25C from Sunday, which would make the country hotter than Corfu, Greece.
