Coronation Street’s Rovers Return ‘name change’ set to spark fury with fans

Coronation Street fans could be left furious as the new owners of Rovers Return may decide to change to name of the iconic boozer as it undergoes an extensive refurbishment

Coronation Street’s Rovers Return could soon have a new name after it closed its doors for refurbishment.

The iconic pub has been taken over by new owners. Former landlady Jenny Connor ( Sally Ann Matthews ) signed over the lease, which saw the staff have their contracts terminated with immediate effect. Jenny had been struggling to keep the boozer going amid the cost of living crisis. Ultimately, she had no choice but to put the pub up for sale. That eventually went to Waterfords, who are keen to give it a fresh new look.

Rovers Return has since shut its doors for a full refurbishment. However, there is no return date in sight leaving many fearing the local could be gone for good. Having been up and running since the very beginning of the soap in 1960, residents can only watch as it is boarded up for refurbishment by the new owners, with the staff losing their jobs too. However, it has been reported the pub could reopen with a new name.

The Daily Star has used artificially intelligent “creative” tool Bard AI to figure out potential names. The system said: “There have been reports that the new owners may decide to rebrand the pub in an attempt to make it more trendy. This could include changing the name to something more modern, such as “The Roverz” or “Rovers Bar & Grill.” If the name is changed, it is likely to cause a lot of upset among the Weatherfield residents.” It went on to say whatever decision is made, it will be met with “a lot of debate and discussion.”
