The win was his first since last year's British Grand Prix and just the second of his career. It was a timely upturn in form for the Spaniard, with his contract at Ferrari having just over a year left to run. While his partnership with Charles Leclerc has been mostly successful, there have been some doubts over his future at the Scuderia. But Sainz has now insisted that his improved results will help him at the negotiating table. 'Yes, but they also knew it, and we know it, before these two races," he told AS when asked if this would be a good time to start contract talks. "Obviously, being in a good moment at a sporting level helps. "But before these two races we were already quite aligned and in tune with Ferrari, with Fréd (Vasseur) and with everyone. I wasn't so bad when I was criticized, nor am I so good now. You have to go race by race, in sport you always go through good and bad moments and you have to focus on yourself. "Know what works for you and what doesn't. But just as you have to quickly forget the bad races, you also have to forget the good ones. We all have strong points and weaker points.
