Manchester United are in line for a repeat of the 2023 Carabao Cup final with Newcastle United set to travel to Old Trafford following their win over Manchester City
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have been handed a 12th successive home cup draw, with Newcastle their upcoming opponents in the fourth round.
United made short work of Crystal Palace in their third round tie, with Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro and Anthony Martial all netting in a 3-0 victory. Newcastle were made to work a little harder to progress, with Alexander Isak scoring the only goal of the game as they eliminated 2021 winners Manchester City at St James’ Park.
The fourth-round meeting with Newcastle will provide the visitors with the opportunity to avenge their defeat in last season’s final, when first-half goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford gave United the trophy. More remarkably, though, it means the Red Devils still haven’t been drawn away from home in a domestic cup since March 2021.
Last season’s run to Carabao Cup glory came off the back of three home ties either side of the World Cup break. Aston Villa were despatched 4-2 in November, with Burnley and Charlton following suit as Ten Hag’s team secured back-to-back clean sheets.
