Sutcliffe killed 13 women and attempted to murder seven more between 1975 and 1980 before his arrest in 1981, after which he was sentenced to 20 concurrent sentences of life imprisonment. His sentence was changed to a whole life order in 2010, and he died three years ago in prison aged 74 after contracting Covid. Now, a new series that details the five-year manhunt for the serial killer, The Long Shadow, which stars Toby Jones as DCS Dennis Hoban and Mark Stobbart as Sutcliffe, has hit screens. 'I have a thick skin and this [new ITV] drama won't impact on me too much,' he said. 'But I hope this will be the last. 'My brother's story has been repeatedly told and, for the sake of the victims and their families – and my family – it needs to be left now. It is history,' he added when speaking to MailOnline. He then said TV bosses were cashing in on other people's suffering. 'What is to be gained from this? I feel so sorry for the victims' families that they have to endure the retelling of losing their loved one,' he continued. 'It just drags up the most painful memories. 'My family don't need it either; it was bad enough to go through it at the time. It's like reopening a terrible old wound.'
