 Arnold Schwarzenegger has shed light on his slightly terrifying parenting methods, admitting that he went to extremes to teach his children some life lessons. The Terminator actor is dad to five kids – sharing Katherine, Christopher, Patrick and Christina with ex-wife Maria Shriver, and son Joseph Baena with his former housekeeper, Mildred. In a candid new interview ahead of the release of his new book, Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life, the 76-year-old opened up on how he tried to share his wisdom with his brood, which didn't always work out well. 'You could talk to them about what they liked about their upbringing because they have very humorous stories,' he told People Magazine. 'As a matter of fact, Katherine comes over with [her daughter] Lyla and she says, 'Lyla, I told you already not to put the shoes there. Keep your shoes on or you put them away, but you don't leave them there by the stand in front of the fireplace because you know what Daddy did? When I left my shoes there twice? The third time, he burned them in front of me and I cried.'' 'Yes, absolutely,' he 'grinned' when asked if he actually set her shoes on fire. 'Now [she] uses the same methods which she cried over and that she complained about.' Katherine may have been scarred by some of her dad's efforts (Picture: Getty) Arnold insisted that he wasn't a 'drill instructor' with his children, but didn't grow up with much himself, so wanted to instill chores and hard work in the household. 'Every pair of shoes that I had, which there was only one pair, I washed every day and cleaned every day and I put them away,' he continued. 'So I said, 'I want you guys to do the same thing, even though you have many shoes. Just put them away in the mudroom. We have a mudroom, put them in the mudroom because I don't want to go and clean up your shoes.''
