 It looks like the Nintendo Switch is to get another 'impossible' port, with Rockstar Games planning a new version of Red Dead Redemption 2. Since the first Red Dead Redemption was an Xbox 360 game there was no problem porting it to the Switch, but the sequel is one of the most technically advanced games of the previous generation and it seems impossible that it could ever run properly on Nintendo's hardware. Apparently, Rockstar Games beg to differ though, as it's been listed by the Brazilian age rating board, which means it's due to come out relatively soon – even though it's not been officially announced. Age rating boards regularly reveal new games before they're supposed to, so there's little chance that this is a mistake, even if there's some confusion as to when exactly the listing was added. Given the size and complexity of Red Dead Redemption 2's world it's very hard to imagine it being recreated on the Switch, although there have been a number of other 'impossible' ports that have defied expectation – with The Witcher 3 being perhaps the most surprising. However, it's most likely that the Switch version only works through the cloud, which has been the case for a number of last gen games on the system, even if it's not something Rockstar has done before. Given the first game was just released as a normal port, they may feel this is a good time to experiment with cloud technology, even if it has the limitation that you have to have a fast and consistent broadband connection for the game to run. However, if the Switch 2 is, as most assume, relatively imminent, it is surprising that Rockstar didn't just wait for that, since most rumours claim it's roughly equal in power to a PlayStation 4.
