The research was commissioned by personalised book publishers, Wonderbly, who enable customers to create their own thoughtful gifts for children and adults. A spokesman for the brand said: 'Giving and receiving gifts is one of life's little joys. There's a great deal of emotion in gift giving – the perfect gift can leave someone speechless, while the wrong one can cause feelings of disappointment.' When reacting to an unwanted present, 41% graciously accept it, while 18% pretend to be delighted – but more than a tenth (11%) show no emotion, and simply 'do nothing'. It also emerged that almost half (45%) don't welcome clothing of any kind being selected for them by someone else. However, not wanting them to go to waste, 34% donate their disappointing gifts to charity – while 15% adopt an 'out of sight, out of mind' mantra by hiding them somewhere in the house. Brits have shared the top 50 worst gifts they could possibly receive â including a diet plan, a bad romance novel, and even a car manual.
Other bad presents to unwrap on Christmas, birthdays, or other special occasions include cleaning products, new windscreen wipers, and a de-icer.
And soap on a string, potpourri, hankies, and a tie, also ranked among the top 10 things Brits would not be thankful to be gifted.
