Farthing is a renowned gynaecologist who later oversaw the births of Prince William and Kate's three children George , Charlotte and Louis . He was also the late Queen's surgeon-gynaecologist. Crimewatch and Holiday presenter Jill, 37, was killed by a single bullet on April 26 1999. She and Alan had only recently got engaged and were scheduled to wed later that year on September 25, almost five months to the day along from her death. Farthing, who turned 60 this June, has a private practice in London's Harley Street. He is also gynaecological cancer department head at Imperial College Hospitals NHS Trust. He and Jill first met on on a blind date at a dinner party in 1997 before announcing their engagement on January 31 1999 - less than three months before her murder. She had left Farthing's home in Chiswick, west London, on the morning of her death - returning alone by car to her Fulham property. She was shot once in the head as she approached the front door at about 11.32am. Alan told the BBC at the time how he was left "devastated". He said: "I cannot believe what has happened - I cannot understand what has happened. "I do not think for one moment what could go through somebody's mind when they do such a thing to a beautiful, caring and well-meaning person."
