The major update comes after years of leads and desperate pleas from Robert's mum Cheryl. Amongst them, she revealed the last thing her son ever said to her before being taken from her forever. "He was a character – he always made you laugh," she said. "He loved his sport. He was never without a ball, a rugby ball or a football, he just loved everything about it.' She also revealed Robert's last words to her. Speaking to BBC's Crimewatch Live, she said: 'The morning Robert went missing was just like any other morning. He said: 'I am off out mam, see you later' and he looked so happy going around the corner. Just every day I think about that because that is the last time I have ever seen him." The arrests follow a re-appeal from police earlier this month. Issued on what should have been Robert's 37th birthday, police renewed their efforts for any and all information linked to his disappearance. Robert went missing from near where he lived in Resolven, Neath and despite extensive and numerous enquiries, the case has remained unsolved for decades. The fresh appeal came about as police believed that locals might have 'key information' to help solve the tragic mystery. Detective Inspector Dai Butt said: 'All outstanding missing person cases remain open and are revisited periodically in case new evidence comes to light.
