Peter Kay teases plans to revive much loved TV show for the big screen

Comedian Peter Kay has admitted that he would like to revisit his Pheonix Nights characters, although he would only consider it for ‘something very special’ such as a movie adaptation. The 50-year-old Bolton born comic made the revelation in his new book T.V.: Big Adventures on the Small Screen. “I still write down ideas. I had an idea only today of Brian getting Young Kenny to paint an enormous letter ‘H’ on the roof of the club so he can advertise they’ve got a helicopter pad,’ he intimated. “The chance of a helicopter ever landing is, of course, zero,” he said. “As the years pass, I’m becoming more  like Brian, but if Phoenix Nights rose again it’d have to be for something very special, maybe a film? Perhaps Brian could get visited by three ghosts. Now, wouldn’t that be an idea?” Peter Kay has hinted that he would like to bring back Phoenix Nights (Image: Getty) Phoenix Nights only ran for two series on Channel 4 (Image: Channel 4) Only 12 episodes were ever made of the comedy, which premiered on Channel 4 in 2001. It was spin-off from Peter’s spoof docu-series That Peter Kay Thing and went on to achieve commercial and critical success in its own right over the course of two series. Written by Peter, Neil Fitzmaurice, and Dave Spikey, with contributions from Paddy McGuinness whose career it launched, it won the People’s Choice Award at the British Comedy Awards in 2002 and is widely. Paddy’s bouncer character Paddy O’Shea was so popular, a spin-off revolving around him and his pal was released in 2004, Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere. The cast also reunited for a stage production in aid of Comic Relief in 2015. The aptly named Better Late Than Never tour sold out in record-setting time. However, the star wanted to ensure as many people could enjoy some laughter as possible so added numerous extra dates. Taking to social media at the time he wrote: ‘Everybody deserves a bit of joy. Here’s to a lot more in the shows to come!!’
