Lucy Watson plans to bring baby up as a vegan after ‘making promise to animals’

Lucy Watson announced she was expecting her first child with husband James Dunmore with a sweet post on social media on Thursday, and has been answering questions from her fans about her pregnancy

Lucy Watson is planning on bringing up her baby as a vegan after she “made a promise to the animals”.

The 32-year-old former Made in Chelsea star announced the exciting news that she and husband James Dunmore were expecting their first child with a touching post on Instagram. Sharing a photo of James cradling Lucy’s baby bump, she wrote: “Our little miracle,” prompting a flood of supportive messages from fans and her former Made in Chelsea co-stars. Now, she’s opening up about her pregnancy with her Instagram followers, and in a Q&A on Friday, she revealed she would be raising her baby as vegan.

Passionate vegan Lucy has already released two bestselling cookbooks catered for plant-based diets, and she became vegetarian when she was a child after watching a lamb being slaughtered on her family farm. When asked by a fan if she was planning on maintaining her vegan diet throughout pregnancy, Lucy insisted she could stick to plant-based foods and keep her baby and body healthy.

“For me veganism is a promise I made to the animals, one I will never break. No matter what. In terms of my diet, I’ve made a conscious effort to eat less processed food and more whole foods. Also – protein. I made sure I got at least 60g a day, protein is the building blocks of life and essential to grow a baby,” Lucy explained. “Very achievable to get everything you need on a vegan diet, you just need to make a conscious effort, such as with any diet, to meet all your nutritional needs.”
