Inflated stoppage time across the 49 Premier League games played so far has led to a rise in the popularity of Betfair’s ’90 Minute Payout’
This season’s controversial crackdown on time-wasting in English football has created a burgeoning new betting market, according to the bookmaker behind it.
A new directive to referees for them to add on more stoppage-time for the likes of goal celebrations, substitutions and injuries prompted the launch this summer of ’90 Minute Payout’ by Betfair.
The offer allows customers to place bets on the outcome of a match at the 90-minute mark, rather than at the final whistle, something the company told the Telegraph Sport was becoming increasingly popular amid a surge in late drama in the Premier League and beyond.
The news follows an update given to top-flight clubs on the new, stricter approach to timekeeping at their quarterly shareholders’ meeting in London on Thursday.
