During the Japanese Grand Prix weekend, AlphaTauri announced that Red Bull have decided to keep Ricciardo and Tsunoda as their 2024 driver pairing despite rookie Lawson’s performances
AlphaTauri have retained Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda to drive for the team in 2024.
It puts to an end weeks of speculation over who would race for the team next year. For Ricciardo, it is a chance to pursue his dream of a return to Red Bull Racing, while Tsunoda gets a fourth year in Formula 1 to prove he can continue to progress.
But it is a blow to Liam Lawson, the other man in the frame for one of those seats. His performances since called up to fill in for Ricciardo since the Aussie broke a bone in his hand at the Dutch Grand Prix have been outstanding and sparked calls for him to be given his first full-time F1 seat.
However, those calls have gone unanswered. Seeking experience as the team undergoes significant operational changes behind the scenes, Red Bull have chosen to go with their more tried and tested options, to both Ricciardo and Tsunoda’s delight.
