It was in early 1964 when the Birmingham-born songwriter Peter Green, who later took the name Daniel Boone, wrote a song that was recorded by the Merseybeats called I Think of You.
“As soon as I’d cut that demo, I knew that I’d acquired the knack of writing a popular song,” Peter recalled. “So that was my new year’s resolution – to write good pop songs.” I Think of You made it to No 5 in the charts and stayed for 17 weeks.
The hit was shortly followed by Peter’s Don’t Turn Around for the Liverpool band, which made it to No 13, and a year later he co-wrote I Belong for the UK’s 1965 Eurovision Song Contest entry.
