Family sues police after 6-year-old bound with zip ties and ‘perp walked’ by cop

A family in Florida is now suing the local police department after their officers arrived at an elementary school, and ‘zip tied’ and ‘perp-walked’ a 6-year-old girl

The family of a 6-year-old girl who was “zip-tied” and “perp-walked” by police who showed up at her elementary school to deal with a ‘tantrum’ is now suing the local police department for ‘excessive force.’

The family initially filed the lawsuit, which names the city of Orlando, the police officers involved in her arrest and their supervisor as defendants, in August 2022. One of the police officers involved in arresting her, Dennis Turner, the charter school’s former resource officer, was fired by the Orlando Police Department in September 2019, after national outrage at the way a child was treated.

Teachers apparently called the police after the girl threw a particularly violent tantrum – in her first-grade classroom. Police rolled up, put tight zip ties on her like handcuffs, and marched her out in front of classmates, teachers, and other faculty. They then brought her to the police station in the back of a paddywagon and got her mugshot taken.
