'No, don't put handcuffs on,' said Kaia through extreme tears as police grabbed her and put her in the back of their SUV. Kaia's grandmother, Meralyn Kirkland, has said that the police "ruined" the child's life when they escorted her out of school, arrested her, and charged her with a misdemeanour battery. 'This is a lifelong mission of recovery for Kaia,' she said. 'This should not happen.' While the county fired the officer responsible for the incident, they also felt the child's age raised the alarm. After this incident, Florida raised the minimum age necessary to arrest a child from six, to seven years old. Rolle's family is demanding the minimum arrest age be raised to 14.
