Erik ten Hag needs all the help that he can get on Wednesday when Manchester United face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena for their Champions League group stage opener
Manchester United youngster Ethan Williams has been called up to the Red Devils’ first-team squad ahead of their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.
Williams, 17, hails from Manchester and has risen through the club’s academy to now see himself rubbing shoulders with United’s senior stars. Scorer of three goals in six games at youth level this term, as well as registering two assists, the academy star can play as an attacking midfielder or in the wide forward areas.
Those are positions in which the Red Devils currently lack options, prompting boss Erik ten Hag to integrate Williams into first-team training. It’s currently unknown as to whether the 17-year-old – who also trained with the senior players last week – will travel to Munich, but the chances appear likely.
Williams started out his career with Rochdale and was picked up by United in November 2019. Since then, the Mancunian – who’s also eligible to represent France at international level – emerged as one of the club’s brightest talents and the coaching staff have so much faith in him that he’s also featured for the Red Devils’ under-21 side in the Premier League 2 and Papa Johns Trophy.
