Ex-Wheeler Dealers host admits his own car is suffering from strange ‘nuance’

Ant Anstead has revealed an issue with one of his cars Ex-Wheeler Dealers TV host Ant Anstead has revealed one of his personal cars has a peculiar ‘nuance’ when starting up. The 44-year-old presenter admitted he is forced to press his clutch pedal at least three times to ‘guarantee’ the car starts. However, the mechanic-turned-TV presenter didn’t reveal whether he had managed to diagnose the issue at home or what vehicle was suffering from the problem. But, he did admit the issue was ‘different to any other car’ he owned in a potential blow to the collector. Speaking to Express.co.uk, Anstead said: ‘I believe that cars become members of the family. It’s no coincidence that two identical cars leave the production line made out of materials such as metal, wood, and plastics and over their lives they evolve into something different. ‘We name our cars, we understand our cars when we sit in our car we recognise the smell, the nuances. I have a car that you need three pumps of the clutch, then you drop the accelerator, pull out the choke and that’ll guarantee the start. ‘That’s completely different to any other car so they’re such an integrated part of family life that they become members of the family.’ Ant Anstead said the issue was ‘different’ to any other car But, experts feel the issue may not cost too much to fix as long as it is only an issue with the clutch. According to experts at CheckaTrade, a new clutch replacement kit could cost anywhere between £150 and £500. ‘We name our cars, we understand our cars when we sit in our car we recognise the smell, the nuances. He hosted BBC Two’s ‘Building Cars Live’ alongside ex-Top Gear star James May in 2015 and eventually secured his own show ‘Ant Anstead Master Mechanic’. He replaced Edd China as co-host of Wheeler Dealers in 2017 but left the role back in 2020. Alongside his TV work, Anstead also owns the motor brand Radford alongside ex-F1 champion Jenson Button. Radford topped the leaderboard in June’s Pikes Peak Rally, beating off strong competition from Tesla’s Model S Plaid. Trending
