James Cleverly says there needs to be intervention ‘much, much earlier’ when people involved are ‘relatively powerless’
The Foreign Secretary has said that opportunities to “do the right thing” have been missed in the wake of the Russell Brand scandal.
James Cleverly said the entertainment industry has questions to answer on a wider scale after the comedian was accused of a rape, sexual assaults and emotional abuse in a period spanning seven years.
Brand, 48, who is in the middle of a UK tour, has vehemently denied the “very, very serious criminal allegations”, insisting that all his sexual relationships have been consensual.
While he did not comment on the specific claims against Brand, Mr Cleverly said on Sunday that opportunities have been missed to “intervene much, much earlier” in cases where people who are “relatively powerless” speak up.
