Comedian Russell Brand shared a video on his YouTube page to deny ‘serious’ and ‘criminal’ allegations put to him in a letter and an email ahead of Channel 4’s Dispatches documentary
Entertainment company Banijay UK has confirmed it is launching an urgent internal investigation into the allegations of rape and sexual assault surrounding Russell Brand.
The company, which owns the production company, Endemol, behind big TV shows including Big Brother, announced the news in a statement shared today following allegations made against Russell, 48, which he denies. In an investigation with The Times, The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches, four women made different allegations about Brand.
Before the claims were made, the comedian took to his YouTube to deny ‘serious’ and ‘criminal’ allegations which had been put to him in the form of a letter and an email. In the video statement, he said he ‘refuted’ the allegations and said the relationships he has engaged in have been consensual.
Following the allegations and Russel’s denial, Banijay UK released a statement to announce an urgent internal probe. A statement from Banijay, provided to Sky News, read: “In light of the very serious allegations raised by Dispatches and the Times and The Sunday Times investigation relating to the alleged serious misconduct of Russell Brand while presenting shows produced by Endemol in 2004 and 2005, Banijay UK has launched an urgent internal investigation and will co-operate with any requests for information from broadcaster partners and external agencies.
