Two Brit war heroes now targeting Tories after being selected as Labour candidates

Mike Tapp and ex-Royal Marine captain Fred Thomas are fed up after 13 years of the Conservatives – so have put themselves forward to stand for Labour

Two military heroes who have put their lives on the line for Britain are going into battle with the Tories to try to win seats for Labour.

Former Army intelligence operator Mike Tapp and ex-Royal Marine captain Fred Thomas said they are fed-up with 13 years of Conservative rule that has crippled public services on and left millions struggling to survive. The pair form part of Labour’s exciting new election line-up. Mike will try to unseat Nathalie Elphicke from Dover and Deal, who took over from then-husband Charlie who was jailed for sex offences.

While Fred has Veterans Minister Johnny Mercer’s Plymouth Moor View seat in his sights. They spoke exclusively to the Mirror about their upcoming fight against the Tories. Married Mike, who lives in Kent, served in Iraq and Afghanistan before joining the National Crime Agency and MoD. He said: “In Dover and Deal people are concerned about the cost of living, crime, the asylum backlog and the NHS.

“People have answered doors to me wearing winter hats and coats as they cannot afford energy bills. It is tragic that in-work poverty in a modern society is so prevalent. I will work tirelessly to stop that, giving locals in Dover and Deal a voice in Parliament that they have not had for 13 years.
