A YouGov survey found students were more concerned about meeting new people and making friends than managing their money or finding housing
Loneliness and meeting new people are the top worries for students, ministers and mental health charities have warned ahead of the start of freshers’ week.
A Government-commissioned survey of students found that concerns about loneliness and making friends came ahead of other major worries, including money, course difficulty and finding suitable housing.
Some 52 per cent of around 1,000 students surveyed by YouGov said they were worried about loneliness before starting their university course, while 64 per cent said they were nervous about meeting new people and making friends.
This compared with 49 per cent who said they were worried about managing money, 49 per cent concerned about course difficulty and 26 per cent nervous about housing.
