Chris Packham is not, as some reports have suggested, advocating that his fellow eco-protesters should start blowing up oil pipelines. Still less is he considering doing so himself.
“But I am predicting that type of thing will happen,” he tells me. “I’ve spoken to activists who say ‘Yeah it’s already being planned.’ I’m not going to actively encourage people to break the law. That’s incitement. I’m not endorsing it, nor will I support it if and when it happens, but I will understand it, because the government is not listening to people blocking the streets or throwing orange powder over snooker tables. That is having no impact. They still issued 100 new oil and gas licences.”
