Failed Man Utd signing takes swipe at club and explains why he snubbed Erik ten Hag

Manchester United had weighed up a move for Nice central defender Jean-Clair Todibo but the France international has explained why he decided to remain in Ligue 1

Jean-Clair Todibo has explained why his preference was to stay at French club Nice despite transfer interest from Manchester United.

Todibo emerged as Erik ten Hag’s primary defensive target when it appeared that Harry Maguire would be sold this summer. While United were always open to retaining Maguire, they believed West Ham ‘s £30million offer represented a good deal for them – if they could source a replacement.

Todibo, formerly of Barcelona, topped that list. It is his composure on the ball that really makes Todibo stand out, with the 23-year-old boasting a pass accuracy of 89 per-cent or higher with an average of 57 passes per-game last term.

A report from French outlet L’Équipe outlined how United were close to agreeing a £34.1million with Nice as they looked to bolster their squad and find a replacement for the England international and restructure their squad.
