Vets issue urgent warning after dog eats common veg that can kill pet pooches

After one beloved family dog almost died after stealing an eating one classic BBQ vegetable, a Hull vet has issued an urgent warning to pet owners about the potentially fatal food.

Raising the alarm on the dangers of one vegetable, a Hull veterinary practice issued an urgent warning to pet owners.

The vets alerted dog owners after a family pet needed life-saving surgery after eating corn on the cob. Cocker Spaniel Roman stole the vegetable at his home in Hull and ate it whole before anyone could stop him, landing him with an emergency trip to Haven Vets.

X-ray scans revealed the corn on the cob as a solid object in the two-year-old’s stomach, which had to be removed during an operation. Corn on the cob is not toxic for dogs but it is indigestible and likely to cause a blockage, preventing solids and fluids from moving through the stomach, which could prove fatal.
