Agony aunt Coleen Nolan advises a reader on coping with her over-enthusiastic mother-in-law
I got married in April and my husband and I have recently moved into our first proper home together. It’s a tiny one-bedroom flat, but we own it and we love it.
However, his mum is really ruining it for me. I’ve always found her a bit challenging, but she’s been in our lives so much more since we moved into our new place.
She turns up unannounced with treats for my husband or she’ll just plonk herself on the sofa and expect us to run around getting cups of tea and sandwiches, even if we’re working or about to go out.
She has tons of opinions on what we should do with the flat and how we should plan our finances, and has even brought round fabric samples, as well as a whole load of tat from her garage, including an ancient toaster and a horrible clock.
