The broadcaster have commissioned the new show, titled Out There, which will tell the story of a quiet countryside town turned upside down by county lines drug dealers. 8 Martin Clunes will star in new ITV thriller Out There Credit: Getty The drama will feature Men Behaving Badly star Martin Clunes as farmer Nathan Williams, who is forced to confront the dark forces sweeping the rural community. He fights back against threatening drug lords to prevent son Johnny, played by Louis Ashbourne Serkis , from joining the ever-growing gang. The series was written by Ed Whitmore and Marc Evans , who were behind Martin's previous gritty role as a policeman in drama Manhunt. Martin said: "I'm very happy to be working with Marc Evans and Ed Whitmore again after the success of Manhunt. 'Out There couldn't be more different from Doc Martin. It's pretty dark, but definitely a story worth telling." While writer Ed added: 'County lines is a particularly vicious and ruthless wave of drug dealing that uses fear and violence to coerce, often vulnerable, young people into working as runners and dealers. "It has become a serious and rapidly increasing problem across the whole of the UK, so it felt like an important and timely story to tell. 'I've always been fascinated by the notion of things being hidden in plain sight and the way in which different social worlds can co-exist cheek-by-jowl until, one day, they collide. "The fundamental premise of Out There - a widowed farmer who discovers that his son has fallen foul of county lines - immediately spoke to me as a story I wanted to tell.' Filming for the new drama has just begun in Wales. Martin recently starred in fellow ITV drama Manhunt, which saw his portray DCI Colin Sutton - a London inspector looking into the death of Amelie Delegrange.
