Sherri Rollins explained how her life changed in 2017 when she started suffering from back pain, but medics, including a gastroenterologist, told her not to worry about it – with one saying she was simply “hypersensitive”.
A mum who had cancer twice before the age of 50 shared her symptoms that doctors initially blamed her for while telling her not to worry.
Sherri Rollins explained how her life changed in 2017 when she started suffering from back pain. The stay-at-home mum visited the emergency room where a scan showed she had a lesion on her liver, but medics, including a gastroenterologist, told her not to worry about it, with one saying she was simply “hypersensitive”.
Thinking the advice could be wrong, Sherri, from Salisbury, North Carolina, got a second opinion from a doctor who did an MRI scan just to ensure nothing more serious was going on. However the results proved Sherri right, and her pain was eventually diagnosed as stage 4 colon cancer that had progressed to her liver.
After eventually being given the diagnosis in 2018, Sherri recalled feeling hopeful still, thinking ‘They’re going to take this out. I’m going to take the medicine and everything’s going to be fine”. Sherri underwent a year of chemotherapy and a surgery before going into remission for four years.
