Bus driver, 71, who quit job after winning lottery makes very special donations

A bus driver who scooped a lottery jackpot prize has made a special donation after quitting his job.

James Keown, a Kentucky bus driver, won a life-changing sum of $100,000 (£80,630), prompting him to quit his job to enjoy some down time and luxuries after his years of hard work. However, the 71-year-old – who continued working 13 years after retirement – has gifted some of his winnings to an amazing cause.

Firstly, James didn’t want to forget the store owner who sold him the ticket and has decided to give him a slice of his lottery winnings – along with an animal shelter due to his and his wife’s love of animals and the help rescue centres give to animals like their own blind cat. The couple are also looking into buying a new home by the lake.

James wife said: “We do have a special place for special needs animals. We feel those animals often get overlooked”. Speaking after his win, James said: “I called my boss on Sunday, and I told him, ‘I hit the lottery and I’m not coming back.’… I loved my job, but I’d been thinking about retiring for a while.”
