France suspends iPhone 12 sales over high level of radiation

Tech giant insists device is EU compliant and says it will challenge the regulator’s ruling as it unveils the latest model, the iPhone 15

France has ordered Apple to pull its iPhone 12 from the shelves after tests revealed the model emitted radiation that exceeded European Union-approved levels.

Telecommunications minister Jean-Noel Barrot threatened to force the technology giant to recall every device from circulation if the issue isn’t resolved within two weeks.

The ultimatum came after the ANFR, France’s radiation watchdog, carried out tests which showed the smartphone’s Specific Absorption Rate (Sar) was higher than legally allowed within the bloc.

Apple told the BBC it would challenge the regulator’s ruling, insisting its device is compliant with rules on radiation set worldwide.
