Emmerdale star Joe-Warren Plant has admitted he’s ‘gutted’ as he paid tribute to his co-star who has quit the show after nearly two decades on the popular ITV soap
Joe-Warren Plant admits he is “gutted” that Matthew Wolfenden is leaving Emmerdale.
Matthew has played David Metcalfe on the ITV soap for 17 years but has announced he will be departing the programme for new projects. Joe-Warren has played Jacob, David’s son, for a number of years and he says Matthew had taught him everything he knew. During a chat on This Morning last week, Matthew admitted he was “emotional” to be leaving, as he shared: “That made me really emotional! I am so nervous about leaving, nearly 20 years, almost two decades. It feels like the right time, the door has been left open – they’re not killing me off, I’ve been promised. Who knows, I might be back [in the future]. Yeah, but we will see.”
Now Joe-Warren has opened up about Matthew’s departure from the show, admitting it’s been nice to see their friendship develop.
He said: “I’m gutted! I’ve learnt everything from him. I had no previous acting experience, so everything came directly from Matthew. It’s nice to see the change in conversations â everything’s a bit more grown-up and they talk more on a mature level. They’ve always got on, David’s a great father, but Jacob’s enjoying spending more time with David as a single dad.”
