Man gets lost driving around London for FOUR HOURS

OAP Roger Watts was on the way to Dorset from this home in Norwich when his sat nav directed him into the capital in his 2009 Seat Altea. He now has a bill for £810

A man in his 80s who got lost in London during the rush hour has been slapped with ULEZ fines in excess of £800.

OAP Roger Watts was on the way to Dorset from this home in Norwich when his sat nav directed him into the capital where he spent hours trying to get out of London. The 82-year-old says he ended up getting lost and was then caught out by the London’s new Ultra Low Emission Zone, which costs drivers with older cars £12.50 a day to drive in. Roger said: “I haven’t been in London since the 70s, so when I got lost, I just didn’t have the experience to get out. I ended up going through ULEZ zones.”

The controversial scheme was introduced by the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to reduce air pollution in the capital. If drivers fail to pay the charge, they face a fine of £180. Roger says he started his journey in Norwich, Norfolk, in his 2009 plate Seat Altea, to collect a caravan in Dorset. He explained his sat nav played up and took him through London.

His four-hour journey took nine hours and ended up costing him £300 worth of diesel and three weeks later he received a letter confirming the charges, which because he didn’t pay within the grace period, Transport for London has increased his fine to £810 which he says he can’t afford.
