Mason Sisk was 14 in September 2019 when his family was found murdered in their home in Elkmont, Alabama. Four years later, he was found guilty of five counts of capital murder. Now 18-years-old, Sisk faces a life sentence without the possibility for parole. Circuit Judge Chadwick Wise handed down the harshest possible sentence for the murders, which he called 'ghastly, disturbing, and draped in unmitigated evil.' The victims included his father, John Wayne Sisk, 38, his adoptive mother, Mary Sisk, 35, and his three siblings: Kane, six, Aurora, four, and Colson, six months. The five family members were all killed by gunshots to the head. Sisk originally told police he was in his family's basement playing video games when he heard the gunshots. He claimed he did not see the killers, who drove off by the time he came upstairs. But just hours later, Sisk confessed to the killings during an interrogation with sheriff's deputies. Sisk's defense attorneys tried to argue that the confession was coerced, and that interrogators used a manipulative technique to deceive the teenager. They also noted that the interrogator, former Sheriff Mike Blakely, was convicted of theft and using his office for personal gain in 2021. A jury found Sisk guilty of all five murders in April.
