Brain-training app will alert GPs to early signs of dementia in patients

Research of 1,000 over-40s will test memory and attention span through 12 games

A brain-training and puzzle app will be used by GPs to detect people showing early signs of dementia for the first time.

The Reactive project, developed by the University of Exeter, will involve almost 1,000 over-40s people across the UK.

Participants will have access to up to 12 different games designed to exercise the brain and will then carry out six-monthly tests to track performance.

Long-term and short-term memory will be honed by the games, as well as reaction time, attention span and reasoning ability. Data suggests that the games lead to a 30 per cent improvement to problem-solving and a 19 per cent increase to short-term memory.
